WPL 2024 Auction Set To Take Place On December 9 In Mumbai

The Womens Premier League’s next season’s auction (WPL 2024 auction) is set to take place on December 09 in Mumbai. After a massive success in the first season, we are all set to witness the Womens Premier League 2024. A total of five slots will be there to grab by five teams, including 9 overseas players. All the franchises have already released the retained and released players list earlier. A total of 60 players have been retained by five teams while 29 players were released.

Both IPL and WPL 2024 Auction Dates Have Been Decided

First reported by ESPNCricinfo, the dates for both the IPL (Indian Premier League) and WPL 2024 auction have been decided by the BCCI. The WPL 2024 auction is set to take place on December 09, 2023, in Mumbai. On the other hand, the IPL 2024 auction will take place on December 19 in Dubai. The IPL franchises have to release the retained and released players list before November 26.

Also, the IPL 2024 will likely start on March 23, 2024, and will end on May 29, 2024. There were some reports suggesting that the IPL 2024 will take place outside India due to the clash with the elections. But this will not be the case this time.

When will WPL 2024 start?

WPL franchises have already released their retained and released players list. There are possibility that the WPL 2024 will start either at the end of February 2024 or the start of March 2024 (March 04 to be precise).

The new season of WPL will see a Home and Away format

Just like the IPL, we will now see a Home and Away format in WPL 2024. Every franchise has a certain number of home games which will help them to take advantage of the conditions. Also, it will help the franchise to build a strong fan base.

The extra amount will be there for the franchise in the WPL 2024 auction

All the franchises in the WPL 2024 auction will now spend an extra amount of $180,000 (INR 1.5 crore). This amount will be made available to every franchise. Earlier, in the first season, the franchises had $1.44 million (INR 12 crore) to spend in the auctions and build the teams.

Which franchise has the most purse amount left?

Gujarat Giants has the most amount left for the WPL 2024 auction. The franchise has released the most number of players (11 players) and retained only 8 players. They have almost $715,000 (INR 5.95 crore) to spend in the WPL 2024 auction.

GG needs 10 players to build the squad, including 3 overseas players. Let’s see how they go about their business.
