1. Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR), Match 56th, IPL 2014
Venue- Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
It was a knockout game for both teams. And more so for the Mumbai Indians (MI). Because MI needs to win the game and win with some margin to finish at No. 4 in the points table.
RR batted first and the openers added 34 runs for the first wicket. S Samson was the main contributor to the partnership. He continues to play his shots and K Nair joins him at the crease.
The pair added 100 runs for the 2nd wicket and the partnership was broken by J Bumrah when he got K Nair just after he scored his 50. K Nair scored 50 off just 27 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.
In the next over, S Samson also got out by playing an outstanding knock of 74 off 47 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. B Hodge and J Faulkner, both played a handy cameo of 29 and 23 and RR scored a good total of 189 in the first inning.
When MI came out to chase the target, they had to chase it down before the 15th over. L Simmons played a few shots but got out in the 2nd over.
Corey Anderson was promoted to No. 3 and he started to go after the RR bowlers. Everyone was falling around him but he continued to play in one way.
At one stage, MI was 108 and they lost 4 wickets inside 10 overs. Then, A Rayudu joined C Anderson and played an outstanding cameo of 30 off 10 balls.
The pair added 81 runs for the 5th wicket. C Anderson remains not out on 95 off 44 balls with 9 fours and 6 sixes.
Aditya Tare came to the crease and hit the first ball for a six. MI won that game with 32 balls and 5 wickets left. Mumbai Indians finished at No. 4 in the points table.
It was one of the best IPL matches in history. In the end, KKR won that 2014 IPL by beating Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the final.
(2) Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Pune Warriors India (PWI), Match 31st, IPL 2013
Venue- M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
It was one of the best IPL matches in history as it was totally a Gayle storm in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
RCB batted first and the openers, especially C Gayle goes berserk in the first inning. T Dilshan and C Gayle added 167 runs for the first wicket in just 13.4 overs. C Gayle scored a hundred in just 30 balls.
It is still a world record in T20 cricket; the fastest century in T20s. C Gayle didn’t stop there. He continues to hurt the PWI bowlers.
In the end, RCB scored the highest total in IPL history till now. They scored 263 for 5 in the first inning. C Gayle remains not out on 175 off 66 balls with 13 fours and 17 sixes.
AB de Villiers also played a small cameo of 31 off just 8 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. B Kumar and L Wright were the only bowlers who were economical in the first inning.
When PWI came out to chase the target, they were never in the game. They lost R Uthappa in the first over. They were 42 for 4 when the two Australians, S Smith, and M Marsh put on 58 runs for the 5th wicket. But that was not enough for PWI.
PWI lost the game by 130 runs. They only managed to score 133 with S Smith top scored with 41 off 31 balls. It was one of the best matches in the IPL.
