RCB’s: After a heartbreaking stampede incident at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 04, 2025 (Wednesday), Virat Kohli finally opened up on the issue nearly three months later.
The former captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) decided to break his silence and openly expressed his emotions on social media by sharing an emotional message.
This painful incident overshadowed RCB’s historic maiden title celebration at their homeground, and their joyful moment of victory ended in a sorrowful silence.
‘Happiest Moment Turned into Tragic’: Virat Kohli’s Heartfelt Message
Recently, RCB shared Virat Kohli’s emotional statement to all fans on its official X handle
“Feels Sad! There is nothing in life that can prepare you beyond a heartbreaking incident like June 04. It should have been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history. Unfortunately, it turned into something tragic that we wouldn’t have imagined in our wildest dreams.
These many days I’ve been thinking and praying for the families of those near and dear ones who lost their lives and for our fans who were severely injured.
Your loss has become part of our story now. It’s time that we should move forward with complete care, respect, and responsibility,” Kohli’s message RCB posted on X.
The RCB batting stalwart, who was known for his tremendous on-field performance, took a different approach this time to express his personal opinion towards fans.
How RCB’s Grand Celebration Turned into a Big Disaster?
Following a 6-run triumph over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad, RCB planned for a big victory parade at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In an unexpected turn of events, more than 3 to 5 lakh fans gathered outside the stadium. Even the Bengaluru police failed to prevent the overcrowding that led to 11 deaths, all aged below 40, and more than 50 individuals were badly injured.
The celebrations that were supposed to be long-lasting were cut short. Before displaying the trophy to fans inside the stadium, the RCB’s winning captain Rajat Patidar and the team’s only consistent batter Virat Kohli delivered their speeches.
Kohli, with complete disappointment, shared RCB’s official statement on his Instagram about this incident, saying that he was absolutely gutted and was in a state of loss for words.
Legal Actions Taken By the Karnataka Government After the Stampede Incident
After the stampede incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered to immediate suspension the Bengaluru’s police commissioner along with these top officials who were strictly mandated to undergo an inquiry:
- In charge of Chinnaswamy Stadium,
- Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)
- Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)
- Station House Officer
- Police Housemaster
- Cubbon Park police station is in charge
Also, the state’s DGP and IGP were strictly instructed to immediately arrest the RCB administrators, event managers, and the members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
Following an official investigation, it was revealed that RCB didn’t obtain proper clearances and police approval before hosting a public event that involved a heavy gathering.
Rather, the franchise made the crowd bigger by inviting fans openly on social media. Also, the police weren’t ready and didn’t have a huge force to control a rising crowd of fans.
Several high-profile events have been relocated from the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium after the stampede incident. For instance, the matches in the Women’s World Cup 2025 have been moved from Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai. Likewise, the matches in the Maharaja T20 trophy have been shifted to Mysore.
RCB’s New Initiative for Crowd Management and Fan Safety
Apart from providing compensation of INR 25 lakhs to the affected families in the stampede incident, the franchise has set up a new group called ‘RCB Cares’. This approach aims a proper collaboration with the officials of IPL and KSCA to ensure the safety of fans as well as manage a huge crowd effectively in the following ways:
- Setting up safety checks for fans during matches.
- Staff members are trained annually on how to manage on-field crowds and respond to emergencies.
- Investing funds into research to understand how to better protect the public in better ways during high-profile sporting events.
- Providing permanent jobs to local communities in stadiums.
- Honoring the memories of those fans lost by sharing their life stories, so that their memory lives on with every RCB match.
However, the above-mentioned initiatives proposed by the RCB management are yet to receive official approval from the Indian government.

Conclusion
Virat Kohli’s sentimental words came 90 days after the public’s criticism over RCB’s lack of planning and execution of their trophy celebrations.
Amidst the ongoing legal proceedings, the RCB batting stalwart’s message heals the wounds of those families affected by the incident than the financial aid provided by the franchise.
While several fans appreciated Kohli’s decision to address the affected families, a few of them questioned why he took a long gap to speak about this incident.
Despite RCB providing compensation to the affected families and planning initiatives to prevent similar incidents from repeating, the franchise’s future is now in jeopardy.
Several media reports went on to speculate that RCB might get banned for IPL 2026. As the investigations are going on, there hasn’t been any official statement released so far.
Overall, the stampede incident has left a lasting negative impression on RCB’s maiden title win. It serves as a warning to all IPL franchises to prioritize responsibility and fans’ safety first over trophy celebrations.
