Tilak Verma Gets The Call-Up For T20I Vs WI | Team India

BCCI announces Indian Squad for T20I series against West Indies | Tilak Verma gets the call-up

Team India has named a 15-member squad for the upcoming 5-match T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean and the USA. The Indian team will be led by Hardik Pandya. He will also take part in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the same location in 2024. At Trinidad’s Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the T20I series between West Indies and India is set to start on August 3.

IPL 2023 superstar Yashasvi Jaiswal is now a part of Team India. As a member of the Indian test team, Jaiswal is in the West Indies. Tilak Verma, a middle-order batter for the Mumbai Indians. He received his first-ever national call-up as a result of a strong Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. The 15-member Indian T20 team does not include Rinku Singh.

India vs West Indies, T20I squad annoucement: No Place for Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Yashasvi Get Maiden call-ups

The Indian team for the next five-match series against the West Indies was named on Wednesday. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Verma received their first T20I call-ups. Yashasvi and Varma, who batted for the Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, respectively, had good IPL 2023 seasons.

Rinku Singh, on the other hand, is not given the chance. He was also passed over for the upcoming Asia Cup for Emerging Teams. Sanju Samson, a wicketkeeper and batter, returns to the team at the same time. Ajit Agarkar served as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee.

As for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, they continue to miss out on T20Is. Hardik Pandya will continue as captain, and Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy.

The inclusion of the two left-handed rookies is enough proof that Ajit Agarkar and his four fellow committee members will bring in batters who could go hammer and tongs from the outset in their first meeting as the senior national selection committee chairman.

The Mumbai batter Jaiswal has recently made it onto India’s Test squad. He made a name in the IPL by scoring 625 runs for Rajasthan Royals. That includes five fifty scores and a century. The young player took advantage of the PowerPlay and scored huge runs in the first few overs.

While Hyderabad-based Varma has been a reliable middle-order batsman for Mumbai Indians, scoring 343 runs in the most recent IPL at an average of nearly 43. It appears that the Agarkar-led selection panel has changed India’s strategy for T20Is in light of the changing nature of the shorter format.

Hardik Pandya returns as the T20I Captain for India vs West Indies

In the five games that will be played in Trinidad and Guyana before the team goes to Florida; Suryakumar Yadav will serve as Hardik Pandya’s deputy.

Seven players from India’s most recent T20I against New Zealand in February of this year are not a part of the India vs West Indies squad. While the selectors bring in Ravi Bishnoi and Sanju Samson. Even though they do well in the shorter format, particularly in the IPL, players like Jitesh Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad are not a part of Team India.

The other five members of that team who have been injured are Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, and Washington Sundar.

Leg-spinner Bishnoi, who had fallen out of favour since September of last year, as well as Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Axar Patel, who had missed the New Zealand series due to their own reasons, all return to the squad to bolster the spin department.

The Jodhpur-based Bishnoi has played for Team India in 10 T20I and one ODI so far. But he showed his mettle in the IPL with the Lucknow Super Giants, taking 16 wickets, which made his return possible.

Avesh Khan last played for India in a T20I at the Asia Cup in 2017. He returns to the team in the fast bowling department as well. The pace battery, made up of Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh, and Mukesh Kumar, will profit from the Caribbean climate.

Sanju Samson, who missed the New Zealand T20I series due to a knee injury, has returned for the India vs West Indies T20 series. As a result, Jitesh Sharma is no longer in the lineup, and Ishan Kishan is also still there.

Other Notable Changes

The Central Zone skipper and Uttar Pradesh pacer is Shivam Mavi. He stood out in the T20Is against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He is not part of the India vs West Indies T20 squad too. Along with the batting combo of Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

After a disastrous IPL 2023, Deepak Hooda is not a part of the squad. Washington Sundar, an off-spinner all-rounder who is suffering from injuries, is also let go.

Team India plays three Twenty20 Internationals in the West Indies. Then the final two matches will take place in Florida, USA. August 3 will mark the start of the five-game India vs West Indies  series.
