The BCCI Introducing A Rule For Impact Players IPL 2023

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) is far from the start but there is a huge update regarding the IPL 2023 playing rule.

An IPL was won by the Gujrat Titans franchise in their first outings in the last IPL season. Gujrat Titans (GT) won the final against Rajasthan Royals (RR) to win the first title.

RR won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost their first wicket in the 4th over. J Buttler was set to go for another big score in the final of the IPL 2022, but it was Gujrat Titans captain H Pandya who led the bowling from the front. He took the leaf out of the RR’s innings by taking 3 crucial wickets. RR was restricted to a small total of 130.

When Gujrat Titans came out to chase the target, they didn’t start off well. They lost two wickets for just 23 runs inside 5 overs.

S Gill and Hardik steady the ship for GT and stitch a 63 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. Hardik fell in the 14th over with an individual score of 34 off 30 balls with 3 fours and a six.

D Miller in the form of his life and played a crucial cameo while S Gill holds one end.

GT won the game with 11 balls left and 7 wickets in hand. It is the first time that the Gujrat-based franchise won the title in the IPL. Before, there was another Gujrat-based team called Gujrat Lions. They reached the final of the IPL 2016, but couldn’t cross the line.

Impact player rule in IPL 2023

Now, IPL 2023 is far from the start. But BCCI is now all done to introduce the impact player rule. It is the first time that this time of rule is introduced in the IPL 2023.

An x-factor player rule is there in the Big Bash League already. In which, the player can replace the player who is in the playing XI after the 10th over. The X-factor player’s name came in the team sheet as the 12th or 13th man.

How does an X Factor player rule work?

An X-factor player can replace the batter who is yet to bat and the bowler who didn’t bowl more than one over. The replaced player can bowl 4 allotted overs even if the first player has bowled.

BCCI introduced an Impact player rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) as well

Before the introduction in the IPL 2023, the BCCI introduced the impact player rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). H Shokeen, Delhi’s 22 years old became the first impact player in the SMAT tournament. He helped his team to win that game by 71 runs.

Now, BCCI is set to introduce the impact player rule in the IPL 2023.

How does an impact player rule work?

Before the 14th over in either of the inning, an impact player can come into the playing XI.  The fourth umpire or the on-field umpire must inform the introduction of the impact player by the captain, head coach, and team manager.

What about the injured player?

An injured player can no longer take part in the match if the team introduced an impact player to replace him. The team has to notify the fourth umpire about the introduction of the impact player.

Let’s see how this rule works and if this rule makes the game more interesting. The team can replace the player in the playing XI with the impact player if they think it will be useful for them.
