Suryakumar Yadav Sets Record For Most Sixes In Calendar Year

Suryakumar Yadav claims the world record for hitting most sixes in a calendar year, beating Pakistan’s M Rizwan.

Suryakumar Yadav, the wristy Indian batter claims the world record of hitting most sixes in a calendar year. He has hit 50 sixes this year (2022) in the shortest format of the game. Suryakumar Yadav beats Pakistan’s M Rizwan in the list who has hit 42 sixes in the calendar year 2021. He is now also become the first player to hit 50 sixes in a calendar year in T20Is.

Suryakumar Yadav reached this milestone in a second T20 match against South Africa at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. South Africa won the toss and elected to field first.

Suryakumar Yadav scored another fifty in 2nd T20I

The Indian openers started off really well, putting on a 96 runs stand for the first wicket. Team India lost two wickets in a quick time after that partnership and Suryakumar Yadav joins V Kohli at the crease. The pair added 102 runs for the third wicket and help India to reach the 4th highest score in T20 Internationals. Suryakumar Yadav scored 61 off just 22 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Team India scored 237 for 3 courtesy of some outstanding batting display and poor South African bowling.

When the Proteas came out to chase this mammoth total, they lost two wickets in captain T Bavuma and R Rossouw. T Bavuma played the maiden in the first over against D Chahar.

Then, A Markram and Q de Kock put on a 45 runs stand. A Markram played some good shots but his inning was cut short by A Patel.

D Miller joins Q de Kock and they put on a huge unbeaten partnership of 174. In the end, they fell just 16 short of India’s total, scoring 221 for 3. D Miller remains not out on 106 off 47 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes. Q de Kock took off a little too late as his inning was a bit slow in a high-scoring game. He remained not out on 69 off 48 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.

India won the series with one game still to play on October 04 at Holker Cricket Stadium, Indore. For that match, V Kohli and KL Rahul will be rested.

He becomes the first player to hit 50 sixes in a calendar year

Coming back to Suryakumar Yadav’s achievement, this is a very big thing for him as he becomes the first player to hit 50 sixes. Pakistan’s M Rizwan is second in the list with 42 sixes in 2021 and New Zealand’s M Guptill is third in this list with 41 sixes in 2021.
