Roll of Honor for VIVO Pro Kabaddi Champions

The new season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is not far away to start. And we are discussing the champions of the previous seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League.

So let’s recap the memories of this league of the beautiful game “Kabaddi”.

The Pro Kabaddi League, or PKL, was established in 2014. That is in response to the popularity of the Kabaddi tournament at the 2006 Asian Games.

The format of the league is similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) with eight teams participating in the tournament in the first season. Four of the top teams will qualify for the next round.

Although this league is not as big as the Indian Premier League, still people in India and all over the world enjoy watching this league.

It has now been eight seasons since 2014 since the tournament began. And there are 6 winners in those 8 completed seasons.

Let’s see one by one the teams who won the title in Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).

Jaipur Pink Panthers, 2014

Jaipur Pink Panthers, the team owned by the film star Abhishek Bachchan was the first team to win the tournament in 2014.

They beat the U Mumba in the final of the Pro Kabaddi League 2014.

The Jaipur-based franchise won 11 out of 15 games in the league stage. And finished at the top of the points table with 54 points. They lost 3 games and drew one game in the tournament.

On the other hand, the runners-up U Mumba was the 2nd team in the points table with 51 points.

The final score between the two teams in the final was 35-24 in favor of the Jaipur Pink Panthers.

Anup Kumar from U Mumba scored the highest raid points in the Pro Kabaddi League 2014. He scored 155 raid points.

From the winning team Jaipur Pink Panthers, Maninder Singh scored the highest raid points in the tournament with 130.

Manjeet Chillar was the best defender in the tournament with 51 points. From Jaipur Pink Panthers, it was Rohit Rana who scored the highest defending points in the tournament. He was the fourth overall top 5 defender in the tournament with 38 points.

U Mumba, 2015

U Mumba goes one better than the last year. They beat Bengaluru Bulls by 36-30 to win their first ever Pro Kabaddi League title.

U Mumba finished at the top of the points table with 12 wins and 60 points in 14 games. While Bengaluru Bulls finished third in the points table.

Anup Kumar was the best raider with 74 points in the tournament for U Mumba. And the most tackle points from U Mumba are of Mohit Chillar (42).

Overall, the most raid points were scored by Kashiling Adake (114) from Dabang Delhi. The most tackle points were also scored by Dabang Delhi’s Ravindar Pahal (60).

Patna Pirates, 2016 (January)

Patna Pirates finished on second the points table in the Pro Kabaddi League 2016 (January). They won 10 games and scored 58 points in 14 games.

U Mumba again reached the final of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 3rd. But couldn’t make it two in two consecutive years. They lost by a small margin of 3 (31-28).

Pradeep Narwal and Sandeep Narwal was the best raider and defender from Patna Pirates with 116 (Raid Points) and 55 (Tackle Points) points respectively.

Patna Pirates, 2016 (June)

The next season of the Pro Kabaddi League was held in 2016 as well in June. And Patna Pirates again won the tournament after beating the first year’s PKL champions Jaipur Pink Panthers.

They beat Jaipur by 8 points (37-29) to defend the title.

Patna Pirates finished at the top of the points table in Pro Kabaddi League 2016 (June) with 10 wins and 52 points.

Pradeep Narwal scored the highest raid points for Patna Pirates. He scored 131 raid points.

On the other hand, Fazel Atrachali (Patna Pirates) has scored the highest tackle points (52) in the tournament.

Patna Pirates, 2017

Patna-based franchise won its third consecutive tournament in the fifth season. They continue to play well and won its third title by beating Gujrat Giants by a fair margin of 17 points.

The last score in the final was 55-38. Again P Narwal was the highest raider in the tournament for Patna Pirates.

In fact he was the highest raider in the whole tournament with 369 raid points.

Bengaluru Bulls, 2017

Bengaluru Bulls won their first ever Pro Kabaddi League tournament in the 6th season. They beat Gujrat Fortunegiants by 38-33.

Gujrat Giants again fell short of 5 points to win its first tournament. They reached the final in two consecutive years but didn’t cross the line.

The format of the tournament was changed. And Bengaluru Bulls finished at the top in their group with 13 wins and 78 points.

Pawan Sehrawat (Bengaluru Bulls) was the highest raider in the tournament with  271 raid points.

Nitesh Kumar scored the most tackle points in the Pro Kabaddi League’s Season 6th. He scored 100 tackle points for UP Yoddha.

Bengal Warriors, 2019

The 7th Season of the Pro Kabaddi League was won by Bengal Warriors. It was the first time they won the tournament.

They beat Dabang Delhi KC by 5 points (34-39). Bengal finished 2nd in the points table with 14 wins and 83 points.

The runners up Dabang Delhi KC finished at the top of the points table with 15 wins and 85 points.

Pawan Sehrawat (Bengaluru Bulls) scored the most raid points (346) in the Pro Kabaddi League 2019. Fazel Atrachali (U Mumba) scored the most tackle points (82) in the PKL 2019.

Dabang Delhi, 2022

After a gap of 3 years, Pro Kabaddi League again started. The 8th season was postponed again due to COVID. But it was finally held in 2022.

The work that wasn’t been able to complete by Dabang Delhi last season, they did this season. They go one better than the last season and won its first-ever tournament by beating three times champions Patna Pirates.

They won by a slight margin of 1 point (36-37). Pawan Sehrawat again was the highest raider in the tournament with 304 raid points.
