The Indian Cricket Team’s selectors have named the ODI team for their upcoming series against Australia. A few cricketers were unable to make the team. The young explosive batter Prithvi Shaw is not a part of the Indian team, even after playing well in domestic cricket.
Although former Indian opener Murali Vijay has since retired from international cricket, he closely monitors Team India’s progress. Speaking to Hindustan Times from the sidelines of Legends League Cricket. Murali Vijay chose the next great Indian batsman. He is angry at how Prithvi Shaw does not find a place in the Indian team.
Shaw has consistently performed well in domestic cricket and the IPL. So his removal from the Indian team is very upsetting. So, why isn’t Prithvi Shaw chosen for the Indian Team? We will try to find out a few reasons for Shaw’s regular omission from the Indian Cricket Team.
The curious case of Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw is an aggressive batter and has a strong record in domestic cricket. But he has found it difficult to maintain consistency abroad. He struggled to turn his starts into significant runs in his most recent outings with the Indian team because of his poor batting.
The abundance of openers on the Indian Cricket Team is one of the main reasons for Prithvi Shaw’s omission. In all three game formats, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the preferred openers.
Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have solidified their positions as backup openers after these two. Ruturaj Gaikwad is still present even after they go. Not even on the list of players is Prithvi Shaw. Shaw must compete with them for a spot on the team and show his value through constant efforts.
Lastly, Shaw’s rejection from the Indian team could be because of a few other variables. That includes fitness, attitude, or disciplinary difficulties.
Shaw falls out of favor at Delhi Capitals too
In addition, the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals named Australian batsman David Warner as their new captain for the 2023 season on Thursday (March 17). Rishabh Pant, who is out for the entire campaign due to multiple injuries in a tragic road accident last year. So, Warner replaces him.
Many expected Warner to captain the team in Pant’s absence. So the decision to name him vice-captain came as a surprise to many. Former Mumbai Ranji captain Prithvi Shaw was passed over in favor of a 29-year-old Indian all-rounder. He replaces Shaw as the vice-captain of DC.
Shaw was one of the likely choices to succeed Pant as captain because of his successful leadership in domestic and youth cricket. In 2019, he helped the India U-19 squad in winning the World Cup. The following year, he captained Mumbai and guided them to the Vijay Hazare title.
Also, he led the Mumbai Ranji side to the Ranji Trophy final the previous year. He was passed over in favor of Indian all-rounder Axar Patel as the team’s vice-captain for the IPL 2023.
Prithvi Shaw Selfie Controversy
Prithvi Shaw’s off-the-field public spat has certainly not helped his cause. There have been some discipline issues around his off-the-field behavior.
Social media influencer Sapna Gill has accused batsman Prithvi Shaw of assaulting and groping her inappropriately on the day of the incident. Gill has an arrest warrant in connection with a case involving the manhandling of Shaw and the attack on his car in Mumbai. Gill earlier informed the Andheri Court that she didn’t know Shaw and that she hadn’t even asked Shaw for a selfie.
According to the copy of the FIR, Gill, and her pals approached Shaw and his companions for a selfie at the cafe at 4 AM as they were eating dinner there. The Delhi Caps star complied with a few, but Shaw objected when Gill & Co persisted. Shaw claimed that he had arrived with a friend for supper and did not want to be bothered.
He received a call-up for the T20 International series against New Zealand after hitting a career-high 379 in a Ranji Trophy match against Assam. Shaw is one of the top run scorers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Cup this season. He shares stories on his Instagram account after being chosen in which fans applauded him.
