Pro Kabaddi League: Player Auction To Take Place from 8 & 9 September 2023

The historic Pro Kabaddi League 2023 (PKL 2023) Player Auction will take place from September 8–9, 2023, in Mumbai, according to the league’s administrators, Mashal Sports. This year, the largest and best Kabbadi league in the world will reach a significant milestone. The league’s tenth season will also start this year.

Over 500 athletes, including the 24 members of the two teams that placed in the finals of the Khelo India University Games in 2023. They will take part in the Season 10 Player Pool.

After three seasons, each team’s total salary purse for its team moved from INR 4.4 crore to INR 5 crore.

Four categories—Category A, B, C, and D—will help group domestic and international players. Within each category, the players will be further classified into “All-Rounders,” “Defenders,” and “Raiders.”

Category A has a base price of INR 30 lakh, and Category B of INR 20 lakh. Meanwhile, Category C is of INR 13 lakh, and Category D of INR 9 lakh. There will be 500+ players in the Season 10 Player Pool. It has 24 players from the two Khelo India University Games 2023 finalist teams.

By the league’s rules, the PKL teams can also decide to keep players from their own PKL Season 9 squads. Each PKL season, the teams are able to retain up to six players who fall under the Elite Retained Players group under specific rules.

The PKL teams also have the option of retaining players from their respective PKL Season 9 squads as per league rules. The teams can retain up to six players under the Elite Retained Players grouping under fixed conditions in each PKL season. 

The players, who are not retained by the teams and are from the pool of 500+ players, will go under the hammer during the two-day auction process in Mumbai.

As per the rules of the league, the PKL teams also have the choice of keeping players from their PKL Season 9 squads. Each PKL season, the owners can retain up to six players who fall under the Elite Retained Players group under fixed rules. 

The players, who are drawn from a pool of more than 500 players and are not kept by the franchises, will be sold over two days in Mumbai.

However, the success of the Kabaddi competition from the 2006 Asian Games served as inspiration for the league’s establishment. The Pro Kabaddi League’s first season was a success, and eight additional seasons were run by the league’s management after that.
