We have seen so many good players playing in the Indian Premier League over the years who created an impact for their teams. But there are some players who played for different teams in the IPL history.
Today, we will talk about those players in detail.
Players who played for different IPL franchises:-
(1) Aaron Finch
Former Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch is the first player on this list. He has played for the most number of franchises in IPL history, being 9.
Aaron Finch has played for 9 different franchises in IPL history. He started his IPL career with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2010.
In 2011-12, Aaron Finch has played for Delhi Capitals (DD) before he was picked by Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2013.
After his one season with PWI, he was kept picked up by different franchises as his performance was not up to the mark. Aaron Finch then played for Sunrisers Hyderabad with his Aussie opener David Warner in 2014, for Mumbai Indians in 2015 and then he was picked up by the new franchise Gujarat Lions (GT), which came into existence after Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was banned for the IPL (Indian Premier League) for two years.
He was there with the GT franchise for two years (2016-17) but he didn’t perform there as well. Captain Suresh Raina gave him a chance in the middle order as well but he hasn’t lived up to the team’s expectations. Although GT reached the top 4 in 2016 but couldn’t make it to the final of the tournament.
In 2018, Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) then chose to sign Aaron Finch. He went unsold in 2019 and then played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2020.
The former Aussie skipper was again unsold in 2021 and then he played his last IPL season with the two times champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022.
Finch is now part of an expert panel
Aaron Finch is now connected to the IPL in some other capacity. He is a part of the expert panel at Star Sports for the IPL 2023. His IPL career was a roller coaster ride as the franchises kept losing faith in him and didn’t show consistency with him. Maybe because he didn’t perform as per the team’s expectations.
Aaron Finch is so successful in international cricket as a batsman and as a captain, but his IPL numbers are not up to his standard. He was the captain of the winning Australia team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE. The right-handed batter was also the captain of the Australian team in the ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. In his leadership, the team reached the semi-final of the tournament but lost to their arch-rival England in the semi-final.
Let’s see the stats of Aaron Finch in the IPL history:-
Aaron Finch has played 92 games in the IPL and scored 2091 runs with an average of 25.19 and at a strike rate of 128.20. He has scored 15 fifties with the highest score of 88 not out which was against Delhi Daredevils in 2014.
His best IPL performance was back in 2013 when he scored 456 runs in 14 games with an average of 32.57 and a strike rate of 135.71. He scored 4 fifties in that season and his highest score was 67.
So, he is the player who has played for most franchises in IPL history.
There are some other players as well who played for different teams in the IPL history. Let’s see some of them.
(2) Jaydev Unadkat
The left-arm seamer is one of the best in the Indian domestic circuit for Saurashtra. But he didn’t replicate his domestic performances in the Indian Premier League. Jaydev Unadkat has played for 7 different franchises in the IPL history.
He started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010. The left armer played for them for three years till 2012.
He was then signed by RCB, where he played in 2013 before moving on to the Delhi Daredevils (DD) for the 2014–15 season. He was re-signed by KKR in 2016, and in 2017 he joined the Rising Pune Super Giants (RPS), a new team.
Then comes the Rajasthan Royals franchise which bought him for a whopping 11.5 crore INR. He played for the franchise for 4 years. The franchise released him but bought him again for different prices.
In 2022, he played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and now he is playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2023.
(3) Manish Pandey
He was chosen by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 auction, becoming the second player after Jaydev Unadkat to play for seven different teams. He started his IPL career with MI in 2008. Manesh Pandey then played for RCB for two years before he went to PWI for three years (2011-13).
The Karnataka boy played for KKR for 4 years (2014-17) and has done reasonably well. From 2008 until 2021, he played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who signed him.
