The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2022 will live long in the memory of the three-time champion Patna Pirates. With just 54 points from 22 games, the team’s show was a long cry from their earlier wins, placing 10th overall.

We will analyze the Patna Pirates and the top three players that they can retain ahead of season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League in this blog.

Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2023: Patna Pirates Full Review

The Pro Kabaddi League’s Patna Pirates (PTP) is a pro-Kabaddi team based in Patna, Bihar. Neeraj Kumar manages the team, while Ravi Shetty coaches it. They play regularly at the Patliputra Sports Complex. The Pirates have won all eight PKL titles in a row, making them the most successful team in league history.

Additionally, they were runner-up once in season 8 of the PKL, which debuted during COVID-19.

The Pirates, who reached the quarterfinals in each of the previous two seasons (2014 and 2015), won their first championship by defeating the defending champions U Mumba in January 2016.

The Patna Pirates beat the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final of the 2016 (June) season to become the first team in PKL history to successfully defend their title. In the final of the 2017 competition, they beat Gujarat Fortune Giants to record a hat-trick of titles.

The three-time reigning champion Patna Pirates had an unsuccessful 2018–19 campaign. They were eliminated in the group stages and could not qualify for the playoffs for the first time. Patna is the first Pro Kabaddi team to compete in 100 games.

Before the ninth season, the Patna-based club made some big changes. Ram Mehar Singh was fired as head coach and Ravi Shetty was appointed in his place. The squad could not duplicate its success the next year. That too, despite having faith in the players who helped it reach the PKL 8 final.

The show of the new captain Neeraj Kumar, who took on the job of the right cover defender, disappointed the fans. With only 29 tackle points in 21 games and a 30% tackle success rate, he fell short of expectations, and his High 5 total stayed at just one.

Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2023: 3 Players Patna Pirates can Retain for PKL 10 Season

Rohit Gulia (Category A)

When Rohit Gulia moved to the Patna Pirates in PKL 2022, he had a great comeback from his disappointing PKL 8 campaign with the Haryana Steelers. Gulia has acquired 148 raid points in just 19 games while taking part as a raider. His great duo with Sachin Tanwar in the raiding squad was vital to Patna’s offensive skills.

Gulia’s seven Super 10s and four super raids proved his capacity to single-handedly alter the result of a match. Rohit Gulia’s average of 7.79 raid points per game makes his retention crucial if the Pirates want to build a strong raiding team for the next season.

Mohammadreza Chiyaneh (Category A)

For the Patna Pirates the past two seasons, the Iranian defender Mohammadreza Chiyaneh has been a game-winner. The team’s tackle points were frequently scored by Chiyaneh, who took the left corner position. Due to visa issues, Chiyaneh was unable to take part in the first two games of the PKL 2022. But she still finished the league stage as the top defender with 84 tackle points.

Fans will always remember his great performance against the current champions Dabang Delhi KC. During this, he set a record for the most tackle points in a single game with 16. The Patna Pirates should keep Mohammadreza Chiyaneh due to his great defensive skills and match-winning talents.

Sachin Tanwar (Category A)

Sachin Tanwar, a former star for the Gujarat Giants, has been the Patna Pirates’ top raider over the last two PKL seasons. He continued to perform well in the PKL 2022. By scoring an amazing 179 points in 20 games, 176 of which came from raiding. Tanwar’s eight Super 10s and four Super raids over the season served as proof of his consistency.

It was unquestionably he who carried the Pirates’ raiding unit on his shoulders. The Pirates would make a mistake if they do not retain Sachin Tanwar due to his great show in the last two PKL seasons.
