Pakistan cricket has a rich history of producing great fast bowlers from time to time. They have produced so many great fast bowlers who won them so many games over the years. From the era of Imran Khan, Sarfaraz Nawaz, and Aaqib Javed to Wasim, Waqar, and Akthar to a current lot of fast bowlers, so many fast bowlers came and made a huge impact on the team over the years. Today, we will talk about the pace trio of the Pakistan cricket team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023.
Fast bowlers have won so many games for the Pakistan cricket team
Although so many great batters came in the Pakistan cricket team over the years and won the game for them. But they rely so much on their fast bowling to win their games and restrict the opposition to a small total. At one stage, Pakistan cricket was called ‘The factory of producing the fast bowlers’.
Even some fast bowlers who haven’t played longer have shown glimpses of their talent and ability. Bowlers like Mohammad Amir, M Asif, M Irfan, M Sami, etc. haven’t played for 10+ years for the Pakistan cricket team. But they were as good as the others.
The current pace attack makes a strong statement to the world cricket
Pakistan cricket team’s current pace attack has been phenomenal over the last few years or so. Especially the pace trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah will be a major threat to the other teams in the Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Pacers rattled Afghanistan in the 1st ODI
Pakistan cricket team is currently playing a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka before the Asia Cup 2023. In the 1st ODI, Pakistan won the match by a huge margin of 142, even after getting bowled out for 201 in the first inning.
Afghan spinners were too good for Pakistan batters
Just like Pakistan’s pace trio, Afghanistan has a trio of quality spinners Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi. The spinners help the team to restrict Pakistan to a small total of 201. Mujeeb took 3 wickets while Rashid and Nabi managed to take 2 wickets each.
Pakistan’s pace trio was all over Afghanistan
Although it was not a flat wicket to bat on, but not too difficult as well. And with the small total on the board, Afghanistan could have fancied their chances to take the lead in the series.
But the pace trio of the Pakistan cricket team has been outstanding right from the start of the 2nd inning. Shaheen started off the proceedings and took 2 back to back wickets in his 2nd over. Naseem also got captain Shahidi. And then comes Haris Rauf, who took the career-best five-wicket haul.
Afghanistan got bowled out for just 59 runs in 19.2 overs.
Pakistani pacers pulled back the total in the 2nd ODI as well
After winning the toss, Afghanistan got off to an excellent start. At one stage, Afghanistan was all set to put a big total of 320-330+ on the board. But the bowlers again pulled it back for the team and restricted Afghanistan to 300. Pakistan won the game by one wicket in the dramatic last over and sealed the series as well.
Pakistan Cricket | Warning To Opponents Before Asia Cup 2023 and WC 2023
Pakistan cricket team’s pace trio is giving a strong message to the world cricket. The opposition team has to be vary of Pakistan’s pace attack. All three bowlers, Naseem, Haris, and Shaheen are genuine wicket-takers and attacking bowlers.
All have the ability and skillset to trouble the opposition batters. And with all three bowling in tandem, it will make life difficult for the batters.
Shaheen and Nasim have the ability to swing the new ball. They took wickets upfront and restrict runs at the end as well. The same goes with Haris Rauf as well, captain Babar Azam can use him anywhere he wants, whether it is with the new ball, in middle overs, or in the death overs. He has that heavy ball in his armory as well.
Backup is as good as the first choice | Pakistan Cricket
Pakistan cricket team has some good backup fast bowlers in the team as well. M Wasim and S Dahani are waiting in the wings along with Hasnain.
Quality Spinners to Compliment | Pakistan Cricket
Pakistan cricket team also has quality wicket-taking spinners in Shadab Khan, Usama Mir, etc. to complement their fast bowlers. Also, Pakistan has the luxury of playing all three pacers in the XI as all can bat a bit as well. All three can handle themselves with the bat as well. So they aren’t looking for a bowler who can bat as well.
So the main point is Pakistan has a very good pace attack and the opposition has to be aware of this. Their batting might look iffy sometimes, but the bowlers make up for them.
