With questions flying thick and fast about his retirement, former India and Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be visiting London for further treatment of the muscle tear injury, according to the CSK sources. Dhoni to undergo knee surgery in London

A new report from news agency IANS, quoting sources close to the development, claims that MS Dhoni may travel to London soon for treatment for his muscle tear injury. As per the report, Dhoni will take a call on his IPL future only after he completes his treatment, which is expected to take around 5-6 months.

Speculation about Dhoni’s plans erupted when he walked off the field with a ‘distraught’ look after a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Ahead of this IPL 2024 season, he handed over the captaincy of the team to young Ruturaj Gaikwad, leading to assumptions by many fans that this might be Dhoni’s last season.

Many former CSK players disagreed on whether we have already seen the last of MS Dhoni as a batsman. before the most recent report surfaced. Former India batter Ambati Rayudu, speaking about MS Dhoni’s future in IPL, told Star Sports, “MS Dhoni should play one more season.

He can’t leave like this after the IPL 2024. MS should play next season and win the IPL. Meanwhile, another former CSK batter, Robin Uthappa, while speaking to JioCinema. He stated that MS Dhoni will be back for another IPL season. “I don’t think we have seen the last of MS. There is no way he takes these things lightly. He will come back roaring”.

However, speaking to Star Sports, Matthew Hayden, who spent quite a fair bit of time with MS Dhoni and CSK, said Dhoni’s knock against RCB could be the last time fans will ever see him bat in the IPL. I do think that Dhoni’s playing this game will be his last.. Certainly, it won’t be the last time that Dhoni appears.

CSK miss out on IPL 2024 playoff berth after losing to RCB

CSK were knocked out of the IPL 2024 playoffs after the heartbreaking defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the do-or-die match on Saturday. The loss came in by 27 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where Dhoni’s spectacular inning of scoring 25 off 13 deliveries was not enough to get the team over the ropes.

It is only the third time that CSK has failed to qualify for the playoffs. Five times, the Super Kings have won the IPL trophy.

CSK came to chase RCB’s 219-run target and lost a couple of early wickets. However, the team recovered from the sloppy start, thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s 61 and Rahane’s 33. Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 42 and MS Dhoni’s 25 in just 13 deliveries kept the momentum going. However, this wasn’t enough to get the team into the IPL 2024 playoffs.

RCB and CSK finished both at 14 points on the points table. But due to the better run rate, RCB headed to the knock-out matches. Despite the speculation about Dhoni’s playing next season or not, the veteran cricketer is smart enough to keep his decision close to his chest until his final recovery, which might take five to six months.

CSK batting coach Michael Hussey has no clue about MS Dhoni’s future

Dhoni was in cracking touch this season with the bat. He scored 161 runs off 73 balls and had a jaw-dropping strike rate of 220. The CSK legend hit 14 fours and 13 sixes in the IPL 2024 season.

The Yellow Army’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, said that he has no idea about Dhoni’s retirement plans. But Hussey wishes that he could go for at least a couple of more seasons.

Your guess is as good as mine at this stage, Hussey told ESPN. He keeps his matters very, very private. We are hoping he does keep going. MS is still batting so well. He does indeed prepare well; he arrives at the camp early and hits a good number of balls. All season long, MS has really been in good touch. I guess we just got to try to manage him from the fitness point of view.”
