Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) yesterday and zoom past Mumbai Indians to get the third spot in the IPL 2023 points table. In the same match, Jos Buttler was fined 10% of his match fees after showing dissent after a run-out. There was a mix-up between him and his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal. And Jos has sacrificed his wicket for Yashasvi.
KKR vs RR IPL 2023: Match 56, Eden Gardens, Kolkata
This game was very crucial for both RR and KKR. RR won the toss and elected to bowl first. Trent Boult does what he does with the new ball. He showed his class and took both the KKR openers, Jason Roy and R Gurbaz early in the inning.
Captain Nitish Rana and V Iyer steadied the ship and stitched a 48-run stand for the third wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal came in and broke this partnership by getting the opposition captain.
Andre Russell failed to make an impact in this game and he becomes a scalp of KM Asif. Yuzvendra Chahal continues to take wickets at the regular interval. He took 4 wickets in the inning and went past DJ Bravo to become a leading wicket-taker in the history of IPL (Indian Premier League).
Yuzi has now 187 wickets in 143 matches with an average of 21.28. His economy is quite good as well; being 7.64. Before that, DJ Bravo was the highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history with 183 wickets in 161 games.
Coming to the RR vs KKR 1st inning, KKR was restricted to just 149. When RR came out to chase a target, Yashasvi Jaiswal hit two sixes off the very first two balls of the inning to Nitish Rana. He scored 26 runs in the first over overall.
The incident between Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal happened in the 2nd over of the inning:
It’s the 2nd over where the mix up between the two RR openers happened. And it costs them a big wicket of Jos Buttler.
It occurred in the second over of RR’s chase, fourth ball. A delivery from Harshit Rana put Buttler on the back foot. The non-striker, Yashasvi Jaiswal, started searching for a single right away. Buttler put his hand up to reject Jaiswal but was a little slow due to the impact of the delivery. Jos Buttler sacrificed his wicket for Yashasvi Jaiswal.
But there was no impact on Yashasvi’s batting and he continues to play his shots. He scored a fifty in just 13 balls and goes past KL Rahul who scored a fifty in just 14 balls. Jaiswal creates a record for the fastest fifty in IPL history.
Captain Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal were going well. The pair added an unbeaten 121 runs and got the team over the line in just 13.1 overs. RR won the game with 9 wickets and 41 balls to spare. Sanju remains not out on 48 off 29 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal remains not out on 98 in 47 balls with 13 fours and 5 sixes.
A convincing win for RR
This win will make RR’s net run rate better and now they are standing at No. 3 in the IPL 2023 points table. But Jos Buttler was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for showing dissent after a run-out incident. It was deemed a level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with the players’ “behavior that brings the game into disrepute”. “Buttler admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the release further added.
Although the nature of Buttler’s violation was not made clear, it appears to be related to the disobedience he showed after being run out on Thursday.
So, this was the incident that happened in the KKR vs RR match. Although, it was a very convincing win for RR and it will give them a huge confidence going into the tournament. They need to win the remaining two games to be able to remain in the qualifying race. Their next two games will be against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 14. And the last game will be against Punjab Kings on May 19.
