Pat Cummins is expected to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pat Cummins is also the captain of Australia who won the World Cup, and is now the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, with a price tag of Rs 20.50 crore. In the ongoing IPL 2024 Auction, which took place on Tuesday, December 19, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, Cummins was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
At first, the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians competed for him, with a basic price of Rs 2.00 crore. Afterward, the price was increased to Rs 5.00 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) when they arrived at the bidding table. He became the most expensive player in IPL history when Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the bidding battle with RCB, scoping him for Rs. 20.50 crore.
SRH TO Replace Aiden Markram with Pat Cummins as SRH’s New Captain?
At the IPL 2024 Auctions, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid INR 20.5 Cr to acquire Pat Cummins. This was true even though the squad already had two capable foreign pacers. Even though Pat Cummins is an excellent cricket player, the team may face several challenges, if he captains SRH.
Following the successful bid of Rs 20.50 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction to purchase Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, Daniel Vettori, the head coach of SunRisers Hyderabad, was excited.
Signing Australian captain Pat Cummins for SRH is always a good decision, as well as for any IPL team. Sunrisers Hyderabad has considered Pat Cummins as a potential leader, but head coach Daniel Vettori has said nothing about the possibility. However, Aiden Markram is the current captain of SRH.
“I think there will be obvious a debate (about Cummins being a leader at SRH).” There is still a lot of cricket to be played between now and the IPL in 2024, and Cummins has been extremely successful for Australia. He’s a World Cup winner who seems to win everything he touches. So it will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion,” SRH head coach Daniel Vettori told JioCinema.
SRH was looking for a player with bowling leadership qualities, which had been lacking the previous two seasons.
Pat Cummins Becomes The Second Most Expensive IPL 2024 Player
Sam Curran, who was sold to the Punjab Kings in the IPL Auction 2023 for Rs 18.50 crore, set a record that was surpassed by Pat Cummins. When Yuvraj Singh went to the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals) in 2015, he was paid a record-breaking Rs 16 crore, making him the most expensive Indian player ever.
Although it’s unclear if Cummins will be the new captain of the team for the 2024 IPL, he will provide his extensive leadership abilities to the group. Although Royal Challengers Bangalore gave him a fierce chase, SRH sealed the deal and broke the previous record for the highest IPL auction bid. With the arrival of Head and Sri Lankan spinner Hasaranga, SRH appears to be a much stronger team.
The 2024 Indian Premier League might take place from March 22 until May 31. Once the polling dates for the Lok Sabha election are out, the official timetable will be made public.
