(1) Yuzvendra Chahal
The Indian leggie is topping the list of most wickets in IPL 2023 till now. He was also a purple cap holder in the IPL 2022. And he has started this season very well.
In 6 games in IPL 2023, he picked up 11 wickets with an average of 18 and a strike rate of 13.09. His best figure in the tournament so far is 4 for 17, which came against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
His ability to pick wickets in the middle overs makes him an important asset in the team. He restricts the opposition to scoring big by picking crucial wickets in the middle. Yuzvendra Chahal is a very clever bowler and he knows when to use their tricks in the game. He is the first bowler in this list till now (as on April 19, 2023).
(2) Mark Wood
The English pace spreadhead is coming back to the IPL after a gap of 5 years. He started his IPL career in 2018 with CSK and only played one game that year.
He went for 49 runs in that game without getting any reward. Now, he is the 2nd best bowler in IPL 2023, featuring in the list of purple cap holders.
Mark Wood has taken 11 wickets in 4 games with an average of 11.82 and a strike rate of 8.73. His best bowling figures are 5 for 14, which was against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Mark Wood is one of the quickest bowlers in the IPL 2023 and also in the world. Teams use him as a genuine wicket taker and till now, he is delivering for LSG (Lucknow Super Giants). The franchise will expect him to continue that form throughout the tournament.
(3) Rashid Khan
This guy from Afghanistan is always there in the list, in every season. Rashid Khan is the most impactful bowler for any team he has played, whether it is SRH or LSG.
He is also very economical and the opposition batters sometimes try to play him out without taking any risk because of his wicket taking ability. Still, he manages to get wickets at a crucial stage for his team.
In the 5 games so far, he has taken 11 wickets with an average of 15.09 and a strike rate of 10.91. His best bowling figures in IPL 2023 so far are 3 for 31.
He took a hat trick as well against KKR. But that performance went in vain because Rinku Singh showed his class and hit 5 sixes in the last over to Yash Dayal.
(4) Mohammad Shami
Last year as well, he was one of the players in the list of purple cap holders and was the highest wicket taker for his team (Gujarat Titans). He played an important role in GT’s success last year.
This year as well, he will be a strong contender for the purple cap, and in the 5 games he has played so far, he took 10 wickets with an average of 16.70 and a strike rate of 12. His best bowling figure in IPL 2023 is 3 for 25.
(5) Tushar Deshpande
A youngster has found his place in the top 5 of the purple cap holder so far. He has done well so far for the CSK and came in as an impact player in a few matches.
Tushar has created a strong impact and has done recently well bowling in the death overs as well. In the 5 games so far, he has got 10 wickets to his name with an average of 20.90 and a strike rate of 11.
