Gujarat Titans (GT), the defending champions, and Chennai Super Kings, the four-time champions, will face off in the first game of the season i.e. Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings.

It has been reported that Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain is expected to miss a few games in IPL 2023.
Workload management of the players
All of the players are now concentrating on the IPL 2023. And Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He led the team to five IPL trophies (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020). But some reports suggested that he might miss a few games in IPL 2023 as a workload management.
The schedule of Team India is very tight for the next couple of years. In addition, it is a World Cup year, with matches in India set for October and November. This year, Team India will compete in the WTC (World Test Championship) final for the second time. So the players have to be careful and need to stay fit for International cricket along with playing their part in the IPL.
There are already a few omissions of players from IPL 2023 due to injuries. Some of the big players who are a part of the Indian team are Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer. Although, Kolkata Knight Riders are expecting that their skipper, Shreyas Iyer will come back for the business end of the tournament. Nitish Rana will lead the side in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
Rohit Sharma might pick and choose the games in IPL 2023
It has been suggested that the MI captain may miss a few IPL games this season, citing a report from the Indian Express. To manage his workload, India’s all-format captain Rohit is anticipated to miss a few IPL 2023 matches. It is anticipated that Surya Kumar Yadav will captain the team in place of Rohit Sharma, who usually does so.
According to the most recent sources, Rohit will pick and choose which games he would miss this season. When Rohit is not a member of the MI starting Eleven this season, he will nevertheless travel with the squad to lead interim skipper Suryakumar. In the IPL last year, Indian captain Rohit Sharma had his worst season both as a batsman and as a captain.
He only managed to score 268 runs in 14 games at an average of only 19.14.

Earlier, captain Rohit Sharma also stated that the players have to keep themselves fit while also playing their part in IPL. Rohit said- “It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchises. And more importantly, it’s up to the players. They are all adults; they have to look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. I doubt if that will happen, but.”
Mumbai Indians had a very bad IPL in 2022
Mumbai Indians had a very bad last season of IPL. They finished last on the points table with only 4 wins in 14 games. MI lost their first 8 back to back games as well of the IPL 2022.
They will look to rectify themselves in the IPL 2023 and will look to stamp their authority by winning their 6th IPL title. MI is one of those teams that knows how to come back from tough situations. They have done it before as well.
