The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) started IPL 2023 with a win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season opener. Rashid Khan showed his class with the ball and then hit a crucial boundary to get the team over the line in the second inning.

CSK lost momentum and at one stage, they were thinking of 200+, but they were restricted to 178. Skipper MS Dhoni played a small inning of 14 off 7 to give CSK a respectable total.

Wriddhiman Saha’s useful cameo of 25 off 16 balls helped GT get off to a flying start as they headed out to chase the mark. Sai Sudharsan joined as a key contributor and established an important partnership with Shubman Gill. Shubman keeps up his strong batting performance and reaches his first fifty in the IPL 2023.

GT needed 30 runs in the final three overs at one point when R Hangargekar bowled a superb over that only conceded 7 runs. Rahul Tewatia was having trouble getting started when Rashid Khan entered the scene and made things simpler.

Delhi Capitals lost their first game in IPL 2023

When LSG came to bat first, they lost their captain very early in the inning. After that, Kyle Mayers took charge and targeted the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) bowlers. He shared a second-wicket partnership of 79 runs with Deepak Hooda. The former was playing his shots while the latter was only holding one end.

LSG finished with a good total of 193. K Mayers was the highest run scorer in that inning with 73 off 38 balls. Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowler for DC. He took 2 wickets and went for just 30 runs in his 4 overs.
When the DC openers came out to chase the target, they got off to a flying start and quickly added 41 runs. Yet as soon as Mark Wood entered the attack, he quickly turned the game around by taking 3 wickets.

In the end, LSG easily defeated DC by 50 runs. The man of the match was Mark Wood, who took a fifer and gave away just 14 runs. Moreover, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi each took two wickets.

Delhi’s wicket is traditionally a damp wicket with some slowness in the pitch as well. But over the years in IPL, it has been a batting-friendly wicket and we can expect a good total in this game as well.

Just like Powell, Kuldeep will be the key in the middle overs while bowling. The team can expect him to be in the wickets column as it will restrict the GT’s batters to go hard in the end overs.

Hardik Pandya

Captain Hardik Pandya is a valuable player with both bat and ball. He is also taking responsibility by playing up in the batting order, just like last year.

Mohammad Shami

He will be the key with the new ball and if he can get the team to a good start, GT can restrict DC to a small total.
