BCCI: Dates For A Few ICC World Cup 2023 Matches Could Change, But Not Venue

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told on Thursday that a change in the schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 for later this year will happen after three boards wrote to the ICC asking for a change in the schedule.

To cut the gap to 4-5 days, he also said that just the dates and times of the matches will alter. The names of the ICC full members who want a timetable change were not released by the BCCI secretary.

Shah made his views this week in response to news that the BCCI was changing India vs. Pakistan match in Ahmedabad from October 15 to October 14. Shah did not clarify if the India-Pakistan date was one of the changes.

But he did mention that boards from several other nations had written to the BCCI. It focuses on logistical issues their teams would face and asks for changes.

Reasons for the Change in ICC World Cup 2023 Schedule

After a BCCI meeting in Delhi on Thursday, Shah said. “It is possible that a few dates will change.” “Several Full Member nations are writing asking for two or three to change. We are negotiating with the ICC, and we hope to clear it in two to three days.

The local police had shown concerns about providing better protection on October 15. It is also the first day of Navratri, a nine-day Hindu festival, asking the BCCI to consider moving the India-Pakistan match-up by a day.

Shah, on the other hand, flatly rejected that as the cause. Some matches have only a two-day gap, so it’ll be difficult to play, travel the next day [and then play again].” “If security was an issue, then why would the match go there?” There is no problem with [October] 14-15. There have been requests to change due to logistical reasons.”

While the distances between games will see a change, as per Shah. However, the venues of the matches will remain the same. We’re trying to avoid changing the venue or the schedule of the games, if at all possible. The venue will not change at any cost.

We are trying to cut down teams with a six-day gap between games to four or five days, and we are attempting to lengthen the distance for teams with only a two-day gap to three days.

ICC World Cup 2023: Dates for iconic India vs Pakistan clash could also see a change

Previous reports say that the India-Pakistan clash, set for October 15, will see a change because of Ahmedabad’s Navaratri celebrations and the heavy burden for security teams already working long hours.

It was earlier said that the game might be played on October 14. Although it is very doubtful given that there are currently two other games taking place on that day.

Jay Shah responds to a question about the match between India and Pakistan by saying. “As I said earlier, just a few member boards have written to the ICC and a decision would be made soon. He said that “security is not an issue” for the clash between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad.

The ODI World Cup schedule is jointly set by the BCCI and ICC last month. Any new changes to the calendar might have a huge impact. India will play their first game against Australia in Chennai on October 8 to the previous schedule. 48 games in total will take place between October 5 and November 19 at the 10 venues.

However, BCCI said on Thursday that a joint statement from BCCI and ICC on the ticket sales for the World Cup will be made next week.
