

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has announced Indian cricket’s domestic season for 2023-2024. On Tuesday, April 11, the BCCI put that news on their official site bcci.tv.
Duleep Trophy
The season will kickstart with Duleep Trophy with is a multi-day format tournament. It will start on June 28, 2023, and will run until July 16, 2023.
Last time, when this tournament was played in 2022-23, West Zone was the winner of the tournament. It was their 19th title in the tournament. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 497 runs. And R Sai Kishore (from South Zone) was the highest wicket-taker (17) in the tournament.
The tournament’s format is a knockout and it is the 60th edition of Duleep Trophy.
Prof. Deodhar Trophy
The tournament will be played from July 24, 2023, to August 03, 2023. Last time, this tournament was played in 2019-20, when India B won the title by beating India C in the final by 51 runs.
Both these tournaments (Duleep Trophy and Prof. Deodhar Trophy) will conduct across six zones – Central, South, North, East, West, and North-East.
Irani Cup
The Irani Cup will commence on October 01, 2023, with Saurashtra taking on the Rest of India (ROI).
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT)
The shortest format tournament will begin on October 16, 2023, and will run until November 06, 2023.
Last time, it was Mumbai who won the title by beating Himachal Pradesh in the final by 3 wickets.
Vijay Hazare Trophy
It will commence on November 23, 2023, and will run until December 15, 2023. Saurashtra won the title by defeating Maharashtra in the final during the previous tournament played in 2022-23. It was their 2nd title.
Both the white ball tournaments (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy) will witness 38 teams, divided into two groups of seven teams and three groups of eight teams.
Ranji Trophy (Premier tournament of BCCI)
One of the premier and prestigious tournaments of BCCI, Ranji Trophy will kick off on January 05, 2023, and runs until March 14, 2024.
BCCI will split the 38 teams into five groups, where four Elite Groups will consist of 8 teams each. And the Plate Group will be composed of 6 teams. The teams in the Elite Group will play 7 league-stage matches each. And two teams from each group will make it to the Quarterfinals. The six teams in Plate Group will play five league-stage matches each, with the top four making it to the semi-finals.
Ranji Trophy has a very rich history and 88 seasons have already been played. The 2023-24 season will be the 89th season of the Ranji Trophy.
Last time, Saurashtra was the champion of the tournament by beating Bengal in the final by 9 wickets. It was their 2nd Ranji Trophy title and both came in the span of the last three years.
Bombay/ Mumbai is the team who won the most title (41 times) followed by Karnataka/ Mysore. Bombay won their last season in 2016.
Women’s cricket
Senior Women’s T20 Trophy
The Senior Women’s T20 Trophy will commence the women’s domestic cricket season, and it will take place from October 19, 2023, to November 09, 2023
Last time, Railways was the winner of the tournament. They beat Bengal in the final. Disha Kasat scored 300 runs and became the highest run getter in the tournament. And Anjali Sarvani was the highest wicket taker with 17 wickets.
Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Trophy
This tournament will commence on November 24, 2023, and will run until December 04, 2023.
Followed by the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Trophy, the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy will start on January 04, 2024. On January 26, 2024, the final of the tournament will be held.
Other domestic tournaments
The BCCI has other domestic and local tournaments as well, which will be played in this period like Mens U-23 State A Trophy, CK Nayudu Trophy, Vinoo Mankad Trophy, Vijay Merchant Trophy, etc.
There are some tournaments for women’s cricket as well like Women’s U-23 Trophy, Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy, Women’s U-15 One Day Trophy, etc.
We are waiting to see the season unfold. There are lots of various tournaments and it will give lots of opportunity to the young cricketers (both men and women). We will definitely see some new young talent coming in from these domestic tournaments.
