Team India’s new coach to be announced soon

Interviews for the national head coach were taken by the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee—Gautam Gambhir, WV Raman, and one overseas candidate happened to top the list. Long-drawn presentations, strategic roadmaps to take Indian cricket to new heights, and a no-nonsense approach came with the interview process carried out via Zoom.

➜ Gambhir is the front-runner to take over as Team India’s coach from Rahul Dravid.

Gautam Gambhir recently guided KKR to an IPL title as the team’s mentor. He sent in his formal application for the job and he took part in a virtual interview on Tuesday. Gambhir’s second role as a coach was with KKR. He earlier worked as mentor at LSG during the 2022 and 2023 seasons of the IPL, taking the team to the playoffs both times.

Gambhir took some time to decide before the IPL. But finally during an Abu Dhabi event on June 1, he told his desire to coach India. Gambhir stated, “See, I would love to coach the Indian team.” “No honor is greater than this one.”

“Coaching the national team is the greatest honor.” You represent 140 crore Indians. There is also more going all around the world. And when you are on the Indian side, how can it get any bigger?”

➜ WV Raman another key candidate for the role

WV Raman is another high-profile candidate. He took part in the video conference from Bengaluru, where he broadcasts the current series of India Women. “During his interview, he gave a decent presentation,” a source said.

Raman brings huge experience in coaching India Women. He has worked in the National Cricket Academy, many state sides, and as a batting coach in the Indian Premier League.
