Bangladesh Cricket Team Review | T20 World Cup 2024

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will mark the first-ever biggest edition of the tournament. 20 different teams will compete against each other for the trophy. The 2024 T20 World Cup will kick off on June 1, starting with the first game between the co-hosts USA and Canada. It will run until June 29.

Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas will host the first match. The final will be played in Bridgetown Barbados. As for the Bangladesh Cricket Team, they will open their campaign on June 7 against Sri Lanka. It is another South Asian nation that has won both T20 and 50-over world titles since its debut in 1975.

Taskin Ahmed will be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2024. This is despite being injured. However, the team is positive about his recovery before the start of the tournament after proper care. Taskin, also the vice-captain of the Bangladesh squad, suffered a side strain before the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe and missed that match.

The West Indies and the USA will co-host the T20 World Cup 2024. The said move will make the USA host a big ICC event for the first time. The West Indies have already hosted two men’s World Cups earlier—one 50-over edition in 2007 and a T20 World Cup in 2010. Two women’s T20 World Cups have already taken place in the Caribbean.

There are 20 teams divided into four groups of five teams each. You can have a look at the groups here. The top two sides from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, where there will be two groups of four teams each. Each group will have two teams move on to the semifinals.

This 2024 T20 World Cup is to be played across nine venues. Besides Dallas and Bridgetown, matches will take place in Providence, New York, Lauderhill, North Sound, Gros Islet, Kingstown, and Tarouba.

Bangladesh announce their squad for T20 World Cup 2024

Bangladesh have named their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The BCB unveiled the Tigers’ official jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is being hosted jointly by the USA and West Indies.

With Najmul Hossain Shanto leading the finalised squad of the T20 World Cup 2024, Shakib Al Hasan will also participate, ensuring he has represented Bangladesh in every T20 World Cup since 2007. Despite poor form in white-ball cricket, Litton Das has managed a place in the final squad.

Bangladesh replaced Mohammad Saifuddin with young right-arm pacer Tanzim Hasan. Their performances in the recent series gave indications of it; Saifuddin has been poor in delivering the yorkers during crucial overs against Zimbabwe.

However, even though Saifuddin had great outings in domestic leagues, Tanzim’s consistency in performance and hunger for success earned him the nod.

“We kept Saifuddin in our cricket squad that we sent to the International Cricket Council on April 30,” Ashraf said. Tanzim was ahead of Saifuddin when we considered what the team needed at the time. It was a close call between the two.”

The chief selector also justified the place of Litton despite his managing 79 runs in six T20Is against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

“We needed a wicketkeeper-batter to replace Litton,” Ashraf stated. “We need two wicketkeepers on the team, considering the current situation about concussions. Therefore, Anamul Haque Bijoy in this equation was told. But we trusted Litton despite his bad form. He has been honing his batting technique.”

“Bangladesh need to revamp their T20 game to match up with big teams”: Stuart Law

Former Bangladesh coach Stuart Law thinks the South Asian team needs to “rethink” their game to shed the title of underachievers and leave a mark on the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Bangladesh Cricket Team is yet to win a match in the knockout rounds of a World Cup. Bangladesh hasn’t moved forward in 25 years,” Law told Al Jazeera ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. “Whatever they have been doing hasn’t worked. So, they need to find out what needs to happen to make them tick,” the former Australian cricketer said.

Presently, Shanto and his side are still reeling from the series loss against the fairly inexperienced United States side in their three-match T20 series ahead of the World Cup.
