Asia Cup 2023: Expected squad of Team India in Asia Cup

The debate on the happening of Asia Cup 2023 is going on and there is no official confirmation on what’s going to happen. We know that Team India will not travel to Pakistan for an Asia Cup, citing Indian government approval. Also, the BCCI denied the PCB’s hybrid model and now the key thing to decide for Asian Cricket Council is who will host the Asia Cup 2023. Whether it is Pakistan, UAE, or Sri Lanka?

If Pakistan remains the host of Asia Cup 2023, will the members of ACC agree with the hybrid model of PCB? Anyways, today we will talk about the expected squad of Team India in the Asia Cup 2023. Will we see some new faces? And who are those players who will make the cut in the squad? We will also see some of the sure-short names, who might definitely be in the squad of the Asia Cup 2023.

Sure-short players in the Asia Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill to open

The strength of Team India lies in their top 3 when it comes to batting. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India’s ODI team will surely be there at the top. He is one of the best openers in white ball cricket around the world.

Along with Rohit, Shubman Gill is likely to open the inning. The way Shubman is playing right now is pleasing to watch. He has all the shots in his armory and can play long inning as well.

Shubman has done well in the IPL 2023 and has run under his belt in international cricket as well. His future is looking good in all three formats for Team India. In IPL 2023, he was the highest run scorer with 890 runs in 17 games.

Middle and lower order

Virat Kohli will be at No. 3 and will play a huge role for Team India in Asia Cup 2023. He is in good knick during the IPL 2023 and also scored 2 back-to-back hundreds in important games.

Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav

Surya has been phenomenal in all T20 cricket, whether it is for Mumbai Indians (MI) or for Team India. He has all the shots and can take the game away from the opposition quickly. But in whatever opportunities he got in ODIs, he didn’t do well as per his reputation. Also, he got 3 ducks in his last 3 ODIs when Australia came to India to play 3-match ODI series.

Shreyas Iyer has done well in this format. He is consistent enough to be in the middle order in Asia Cup 2023.

Behind the stumps- KL Rahul or Ishan Kishan?

KL Rahul might be the contender who will keep wickets for Team India in Asia Cup 2023. He will also give stability to the batting and he has been doing well in this particular format. The only question mark is his strike rate in T20 cricket. But this format will suit him.

Ishan Kishan will be the backup wicketkeeper in the squad. And if the situation demands, he will get the playing XI as well.

All-rounders

Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will be the sure-short all-rounders in the team. Both bring balance to the team with their abilities. They will play an important role in the Asia Cup 2023 in the lower middle order.

Axar Patel will be another all-rounder in the squad. He is batting well for a while and can bowl wicket to wicket. He will be another option in the squad.

Pace attack

Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami will be the key for Team India with the new ball. They will also play a huge role in the death as well in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Shardul Thakur and Arshdeep Singh will be another option Team India will look for in the Asia Cup 2023. The former has the knack of taking wickets and the latter has grown in stature over the years.

Spinners in the squad

Yuzvendra Chahal will be the premium spinner in the squad with Kuldeep Yadav being the 2nd wrist-spinning option.

New faces

We might see some of the new faces like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad as they have done well in domestic and in IPL as well. They will be seen as backup openers in the squad.

India’s expected squad-

R Sharma(c), S Gill, V Kohli, S Iyer, KL Rahul, H Pandya, R Jadeja, M Siraj, M Shami, Y Chahal, S Thakur, SK Yadav, A Patel, Arshdeep Singh, I Kishan, Y Jaiswal/R Gaikwad, K Yadav, S Samson
