The 8th edition of the T20 World Cup 2022 is just less than one month away as Team India will start its campaign on October 23 against Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Today, we will be discussing some of the strategies that Team India will go in the T20 World Cup 2022.
Strategies for Team India before the T20 World Cup 2022:
1. Openers trying to give good starts:
Team India’s openers will look to give good starts in the T20 World Cup 2022. The Indian openers will focus on capitalizing on the powerplay to a good effect and try to score as many runs as possible.
A good start by the openers will give a strong platform to the team to score big runs on the board or to chase down the total.
2. Middle order test in the upcoming home series before the T20 World Cup:
India will play a 3-match T20I series against Australia and South Africa at home before the T20 World Cup 2022.
Team India will look to test their middle order in those two series in case if the openers failed to give a good start. The team has a very good middle order in V Kohli, SK Yadav, H Pandya, etc. Team India’s strategy would be to keep the middle order in touch for the big stage of the T20 World Cup 2022.
3. The approach to playing T20 cricket:
Another strategy for Team India would be to keep the aggressive approach in the T20 World Cup.
Earlier, Team India used to play T20 cricket with an old-fashioned approach. Now ever since captain R Sharma talked about the new approach in Team India, they are playing the game in that approach and mindset.
There were some instances where Team India looked flat while trying to go with this approach. But Team India will look to play as hard as they can in the T20 World Cup 2022.
4. Trying to rethink their bowling options before the T20 World Cup 2022:
In the absence of J Bumrah and H Patel, Team India’s bowling looks toothless in the Asia Cup 2022. Also, the experienced pacer like B Kumar failed to deliver in the latter stage of the inning. It was expected from B Kumar that he will be the key in the bowling department in the absence of the premium pacer J Bumrah. Now, Team India will look to rethink their bowling options in the T20 World Cup 2022.
If B Kumar’s performance will not be up to his standard, then Team India will look at some other options like H Patel and A Singh, who have done well in the recent past.
Team India will also look to test their bowling combination in the absence of R Jadeja.
5. Strong backup in the bowling department:
Team India should have a strong backup in the bowling options. The team has D Chahar, M Shami, A Singh, R Ashwin, etc who can replace the main bowlers and can do well.
The strong backup would give much-needed confidence to Team India if any bowler is injured or not in the rhythm.
6. Trying to access the conditions as quickly as possible:
To win a big tournament like T20 World Cup, the team has to access the conditions as quickly as possible.
If the team failed to access the conditions, their team combination will also be wrong. Team India will strategize about the conditions they will get in Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
7. Trying out all the plans before the T20 World Cup:
In the upcoming home series against Australia and South Africa, Team India will look to try out all the plans before the T20 World Cup 2022.
Doing so will help Team India to know what the things they have to execute in the T20 World Cup.
8. Figuring out the replacement of R Jadeja:
It is a very big setback for Team India as one of the best all-rounders R Jadeja ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury. He has gone under surgery but his recovery will take more time than the start of the world cup. His utility in the team is very important.
Team India will look to look for other options in place of R Jadeja. They have like for like replacement in A Patel. Team India will also look at D Hooda if they need an all-rounder option. But D Hooda would be a batting all-rounder who can bowl a few overs.
These are the few strategies Team India will look to implement in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. We hope that Team India will do well in the tournament as they will look to break the drought of 15+ years. They won the inaugural tournament but since then, they failed to repeat the heroics of 2007.
